In October 2017, construction of China’s first pilot kilotonclass green uranium mining operation – Mengqiguer in-situ leaching uranium mine – passed the final inspection. The area where the mine is located has an extra-large sandstone-type uranium deposit, the first of this kind found in China. In its push to green its operations, the China National Uranium Co., Ltd. has developed the “CO2+O2 leach” process based on extensive research on all aspects of in-situ leaching, and taking into consideration the need for integrating uranium exploration and mining. China became the second country in the world to use the CO2+O2 in-situ uranium leaching technology on an industrial scale.
